News Story: ‘The Resistance’ is mobilizing in NWI

“The resistance.”

A veteran patent attorney in our Region with high-level skills and global experiences used this phrase to describe his interest in becoming active with opposition groups to the current presidential administration.

“I’m not a Democrat, but I’m certainly not a Republican,” he told me. “I just can’t sit back and watch the dismantling of democracy without doing something about it.”

This was the first time this year I heard, in person, such opposition to President Donald Trump and Elon Musk phrased as “the resistance,” a term that not only dates back to 2016 but to World War II. The attorney used it casually, not dramatically, which gave it more meaning, I thought.

Within minutes, dozens of comments popped up with ongoing and upcoming protests, demonstrations and movements in this Region and the Chicago area.

“Feel free to send him my way, there are so many ways to help. We have a big tent and it continues to grow,” commented Lake County Commissioner Mike Repay, D-Hammond.

Repay ran unopposed to be the next chairman of the Lake County Democratic Party, replacing Jim Wieser. In his new role, Repay is in contact with a variety of influential political officials, and he will be focused on team building and connecting groups.
