News Story: Lake County Democrats Elects New Party Leader

Northwest Indiana Times | Dan Carden | March 3, 2025

Lake County Democrats elected a new leader Saturday while Republicans based in Indiana’s northwest corner opted to retain their county party chairman.

County Commissioner Mike Repay, D-Hammond, is the new head of the Lake County Democratic Party. He was unopposed for the post after former Chairman Jim Wieser decided in January to step aside after eight years in the role.

Repay has served on Lake County’s three-member Board of Commissioners since 2013 after spending two years as a member of the county council. He also works as a Realtor.

He’ll have an experienced team backing him at the county party, including Vice Chairman Michelle Fajman, director of Lake County Elections; Treasurer LaTonya Spearman, Lake County assessor; and Secretary Taylor Gibson.

“Together, we’re paving the way for positive change. Onward!” Repay proclaimed.
